Can we just talk about this scene for a moment? It’s so quick, but so fucking powerful. We see Daniel and Tomin, who are clearly in excruciating pain. There’s no doubt about it. And then we see Vala Mal Doran. We know she’s been a host to a Goa’uld, to Qetesh. She’s made statements about how, after the Tok’ra freed her, she went back to her village and was stoned by her people. Even if you didn’t believe her, even if she was lying, we know she hasn’t lived an easy life. But this woman right here… gods. This woman is so used to pain, it’s become fucking normalcy to her. She’s been starved nearly to death, been burned alive, nearly died trying to save Earth’s ass. She knows pain. And so when the Doci comes to her, she doesn’t cry. She doesn’t squirm or beg or plead. She just sits there, endures it, and waits for it to be over. And don’t think it doesn’t hurt. Oh, it fucking hurts all right. But hurting is a second nature to her. She’s been hurting since birth. Of course she knows how to deal with it… she’s been doing it all her life. Not to mention she’s got the added weight of knowing that HER DAUGHTER caused most of this. Oh yeah, her flesh and blood. Maybe she wasn’t conceived by conventional means, but Adria is Vala’s. Maybe you think Vala was useless. Maybe you think she was oversexualized or this or that. I don’t give a fuck. You will RESPECT Vala Mal Doran. You will respect this strong, independent woman.
